At forstå fortiden eller at spise en is. Dette værk nægter kategorisk at være en rekonstruktion af hukommelsen. Fortid er fortid, intet andet end et arbitrært glimt i hverdagen, et indgreb: Hvem der end ønsker det, kan høre: Om de, der var fraværende. Esther Dischereits bog er en del af hendes værk om de tidligere jødiske borgere i den tyske by, Dülmen. Hendes installation, bestående af 55 lyd-stationer placeret på Eichengruen-pladsen, har været åben for befolkningen side 2008.
I samarbejde med workshoppens deltagere vil digter Martin Glaz Serup og Esther Dischereit undersøge og diskutere værket. Gennem typografiske læsninger og læsninger af Dischereits lyd-stationer, vil workshoppen spørge til forskellen mellem monumenter om Shoah og tegnene på og lydene om det tidligere jødiske liv i Tyskland. Fokus ligger på, hvordan man arbejder med monumenter i forhold til kulturel hukommelse – byens interesse og kunstnerens motivation.
Workshopppen vil foregå på engelsk.
Esther Dischereit, tysk-jødisk forfatter af prosa og poesi, har skrevet flere radio- og teaterstykker, forestillinger, og ordmusik, samt samarbejdet med musikere som Ray Kaczynski og Dieter Kaufmann. Esther er blevet tildelt Moses-Mendelssohn-Fellowship, og har undervist i Tyskland, Wales, England, USA og Canada. Hun har modtaget Erich-Fried-Preis i Wien i 2009. Den tysk-jødiske digter, Esther Dischereit (f. 1952), fokuserer i sit forfatterskab særligt på livet som jøde i Tyskland efter Holocaust. Hendes bog, Vor den Hohen Feiertagen gab es ein Flüstern und Rascheln im Haus(Before the High Holy Days the House was Full of Whisperings and Rustlings), er en del af et værk, der i sine mange former – tekst, lyd, dans – nægter er være en rekonstruktion af hukommelsen, men et værk, der fortsætter idet det genfortælles og -fortolkes. Det er et værk om om de tidligere jødiske borgere i den tyske by, Dülmen, der udover bogen også tæller hendes installation bestående af 55 lyd-stationer placeret på Eichengruen-pladsen, der har været åben for publikum og forbipasserende siden 2008.
På workshoppen vil den danske digter, Martin Glaz Serup (f. 1978), i samarbejde med Esther Dischereit og workshoppens deltagere undersøge og diskutere værket. Gennem typografiske læsninger af bogen og læsninger af Dischereits lyd-stationer, vil workshoppen spørge til forskellen mellem monumenter om og lyde af tidligere jødiske liv og identiteter i Tyskland.

To contemplate in passing or to eat an icecream. This work categorically refuses to be a reconstruction of memory. The past remains the past, nothing more than an arbitrary flash into the every day, an intervention: curious perhaps, like the Jewish recipes recited by an American speaker. Whoever wishes to, can hear. About those who were absent… Esther Dischereits book is part of her work about the former Jewish citizens of the German city of Dülmen. Her installation, based on 55 soundmarks and located on Eichengruen-Square, has been open to the public since 2008.
Together with the author we’ll examine and discuss the work of Esther Dischereit, we’ll make typographical readings and readings of Dischereit’s sound marks, what’s the difference between the monuments about the Shoah and the signs and sounds about former Jewish Life in Germany. We’ll be given examples on how to work with monuments of cultural memory – the interest of the city, the motivation of the artist.
The language of the workshop will be English.
